Day 1 - Langkawi

We checked into the hotel after having a delicious lunch and dinner afterwards. From there, we headed to Langkawi Dream Forest. This immersive attraction is new and started only a year ago. The trail in the forest was based on the various legends and myths of Langkawi coming to life. It was a 1.2 kilometre paved path through the path which took approximately 1 hour to complete. It was colourfully lighted up and started with an introductory show of the 3 main stories to be covered in the programme: The Legend of Tasik Dayang Bunting, The Great Battle of Merong Mahawangsa and Garuda and Last but not least, In the Footsteps of Giants. The stories were very interesting and provided the students with more understanding of the topic of myths and legends in Southeast Asia. There were numerous interactive activities that the students enjoyed and many memories were made, especially the marshmallow-grilling session, where students bonded over the fire and ate their smores. The experience of the forest and the wide-variety of activities was very new and enjoyable.

During the debrief, we shared about what intrigues us about the myths and legends that was showcased to us during the Dream Forest trail. We like the immersive experience it provided and how it affects all our 5 senses. Besides that, we discussed on how this attraction was environmentally sustainable through the different features of the trail and we also discussed about how it successful it was overall in engaging the community. From the points shared by our friends, engaging the community means different things for each individual depending on their expectations of what keeps them engaged. Overall, the first day was fun and provided good bonding and educational opportunities, and we are looking forward to continuing our learning journey over the span of the rest of the trip.
